Chilkur Balaji Temple, Near Mehidipatnam, Hyderabad, in Moinabad Mandal, Ranga Reddy District.

The Chilkur Balaji Temple is situated in the village of Chilkur, Beside Gandipet Lake, which is about 25 kilometres from Hyderabad.

It is believed to be more than 500 years old.

The origins of the Temple can be traced back to a regular visitor to the Tirumala Venkateshwara temple.

One year, the devotee could not visit Tirupathi due to ill-health. Venkateshwara himself appeared to him in a dream and told him that he was in fact in the forest nearby.

The man at once left for the place directed by the deity and found an anthill there. Digging up the ant hill with an axe, he accidentally struck a metal object a few feet from the surface. The metal object immediately started bleeding, startling the devotee.

The man then heard a voice directing him to flood the place with cow’s milk.

Having done so, the devotee found a Swayambhu idol of Balaji accompanied by Sridevi and Bhoodevi? which is a rare combination?at the place. A temple was eventually built on the site of the discovery.

People who?for various reasons?cannot make it to Tirupathi still visit the Chilkur Balaji Temple seeking the deity’s blessings.

The Temple also houses an idol of ‘Ammavaru’ (Shakti), which was installed in 1963 and given the name ‘Rajya Lakshmi’ following the end of the Chinese campaign.

Up to 100,000 people visit the Temple each week. Fridays and Sundays see the most number of devotees.

Chilkur Balaji Temple popularly known as Visa Balaji Temple or Visa God , is an ancient Hindu temple of Lord Balaji on the banks of Osman Sagar Lake near Hyderabad, India.
The Balaji temple is one of the oldest temples in the Telangana region built during the time of Madanna and Akkanna, the uncles of Bhakta Ramadas.
